VEGETATION SURVEYS

The vegetation surveys that I use range from formal phytosociological data collection such as the National Vegetation Classification (NVC) and using quadrats to document the plants associated with species that are of patricular interest, to simplistic vegetation mapping such as Phase I Habitat Survey.

Simlarly, the reason for conducting a survey may vary from a need to document the vegetation of an area proposed for development to inform the planning process, to standardised broad-scale vegetation mapping to inform conservation management such as Site Condition Monitoring of SSSIs or to develop an understanding of the ecology of rare species to inform their conservation.
